The Vintage Party Line

Hi everyone, I found a pair of the most beautiful shoes from the 1950's. The are clear plastic and are high heel slip-ons with rhinestones that cover the heels. I would say they are a size 7 1/2. Though they are a bit dusty from storage, they are easy to clean. The main issue with the shoes, which really isn't that bad, is that they are yellowed I will try to add photos later. Does anyone know if the plastic can be "cleared" up? Do you have any hints or tips for cleaning them?

Have you tried baking soda and warm water? I've been cleaning plastic tote bags with it, and that seems to do the trick. You also might want to add a dash of borax ans a mild soap to the baking soda mix. My grandma used to have several pairs of thoe types of shoes, and I've seen her use that mixture before.

I also read something on soaking them in a bucket of bleach/water. That's also very effective, but you don't want to do that too often or it will weaken the plastic. Maybe do the soaking first, then maintain the shoes with the baking soda/borax? Hope this helps!

Hello Leilani, So wonderful to hear from you! Thanks for the advise! I have to try something. I have never thought of baking soda. I love that idea! It sounds gentle too! I will post a picture soon!
